Summary:

A free two-hour session on the ethics of creative life story work - choice, consent, power dynamics, and challenges.

Overview:

This event is part of a series of free online sessions accompanying the launch of Re-Live’s new book, Creating Life Story Theatre: A Guide for Applied Theatre Practitioners.

Join us for a two-hour session, facilitated by Re-Live’s Artistic Director, Karin Diamond, introducing key ethical considerations when working alongside people and their stories. This session is for arts practitioners, health and social care professionals, researchers, and those working in community and public services who are interested in creative and ethical approaches to life story work.

This session will cover:

  • Choice, consent, and agency – ensuring individuals retain control over their own narratives

  • Power dynamics in storytelling – how to create an equitable process that respects lived experience

  • Balancing creativity, ethics, and safeguarding

  • Case studies and real-world applications – examining challenges and ethical dilemmas in practice

The second half of the session will include a Q&A, offering space to reflect, ask questions, and discuss any ethical considerations that arise.
